Overview

Step into a world of stalagmites and stalactites at Atta Cave – Germany’s largest dripstone cave – and then visit medieval Braunfels Castle! This day trip from Frankfurt includes a tour of the spectacular cave near Attendorn. Afterwards we will visit Castle Braunfels (build approx. 1240 AD). Later we drive back to Frankfurt.

Please take note in case Braunfels Castle should be closed due to unforeseen reasons, we will visit a different castle instead in the same area.

What To Expect

Atta-Hohle
This full-day tour begins in Frankfurt with a scenic drive through typical Hession landscapes north to Attendorn and the Biggesee water reservoir region, home of the famous Atta Cave. Walk below ground to the “king of the dripstone caves,” following an 80-meter-long access gallery into the colorful world of stalactites, stalagmites and the stone curtains on the rocks — a fascinating limestone paradise, indeed. It is the largest coherent cave system in Germany and a fascinating subterranean experience.
After a lunch break we drive on through green rural provinces to the
next sight.

Schloss Braunfels
Castle Braunfels, rising on a basalt rock welcomes visitors from afar with its picturesque slhouette. Enjoy a guided tour through the sprawling palace complex and its valuable collection. The impressice Knight'Hll with its weapons, tournament, war and hunting weapons from the 13th to 19th century. Paintings, armor, sculptures and contemporary furniture. The courtyard and the cannon place. Braunfels was fist meintioned in a document in the year 1246.
Afterwards return drive to Frankfurt.
